Q. Can I sort of pencil in letters?
A: In fact, yes. Try holding the shift or alt key when typing a letter. The letter should appear smaller than normal, in a corner. You can enter multiple penciled letters in a square.
Q. Are there different ways to look at the clues?
A: Yes, there are basically three ways of viewing the clues. By default, the current clue and intersecting clues are shown on the left side of the puzzle.
If you hide these ("Toggle Intersecting Clues" in the menu), you can see more of the puzzle, and the clues are shown in the titlebar. Alternatively, you can look at a long list of clues ("Show All-Clue View" in the menu); some folks like to start by looking over the clues to find something easy to solve.
